I don&#8217;t want to delve into the whole obscurity arguments, so I will simply say that it worked very well for me for many years.&nbsp; I would often show people the number of attempts to access port 22 and the complete lack of attempts to access my chosen port.&nbsp; Recently, I have begun getting regular probes on my SSH port.&nbsp; Of course, it&#8217;s not difficult to discover a non-standard port, but most simply don&#8217;t.&nbsp; To suddenly get hit from a variety of IPs attempting to login on my &#8220;obscure&#8221; port is a little disconcerting.&nbsp; Some of the IPs that are probing my SSH port are not attempting ANY other ports while others look to be trying every port possible.<\/p>\n<p>These things happen.&nbsp;
